We Started by Trying to Watch Everything
The first version of that answer was scale. Build hardware for every category of life, from people and pets to vehicles, things, places and journeys, and put it all behind one unified dashboard. Today that ecosystem manages everything from a single set of keys to fleets of 10,000 trucks, on a platform holding 99.9 per cent cloud reliability. OBD trackers, wired trackers, dashcams, magnetic asset trackers, pet collars, smart tags: one app, one login, one map.
It works. A rental company that suffered a coordinated multi-vehicle theft recovered its entire fleet within two hours using exactly this kind of live visibility and remote engine immobilisation. A logistics firm bled margin on fuel cut consumption by 18 per cent andlift-per-cent delivery-on-time per cent simply by seeing its fleet properly for the first time. Visibility, when something is still within range, genuinely works.
Then We Had to Be Honest About the Limit
But visibility has an edge, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest marketing rather than a real product. A tag only speaks while it is powered, in range, and still attached to whatever it is protecting. The moment any one of those three things fails, a smart tag without a human network behind it becomes exactly what it looks like: an expensive nametag, quietly reporting to nobody.
There is a second, quieter honesty worth naming too. More visibility does not automatically buy more peace of mind. Strap a monitor onto a perfectly healthy habit, and people rarely relax; they often fixate. A dashboard built only to be stared at can just as easily manufacture a new anxiety, the fear of the unmonitored blind spot, as it can cure the old one. Good tracking has to know when to go quiet and when to genuinely raise the alarm.
So We Built the Part Hardware Could Never Cover
The honest answer to a dead battery or a lost signal was never going to be a better chip. It was people. Instant routing connects the two without either party swapping personal details upfront.
We Didn't Invent This Instinct, We Digitised It
Neighbourhood Watch has spent decades proving that a mobilised community works: College of Policing data shows it prevents 26 crimes out of every 100. DogLost has spent 15 years proving the same appetite exists for missing pets specifically, using little more than email chains and paper posters, building over 120,000 registered volunteers and reuniting 612 pets in a single month alone.
Neither of those movements needed a single satellite. They needed a way to reach the right people fast. That is the entire premise of Community Alert: take an instinct that already works at neighbourhood scale, and make it fire in seconds instead of hours.
